Patients Beyond Borders Fourth Edition: Everybody’s Guide to Affordable, World-Class Medical Travel

Patients Beyond Borders is the world’s most trusted source of information for patients seeking high-quality affordable healthcare around the world. Author Josef Woodman covers the most-traveled destinations for specialties such as dentistry, cosmetic treatment, orthopedics, bariatrics, IVF/fertility, vision, hearing, health checkups and more.

Nine chapters help healthcare consumers plan and budget a medical journey, provide advice on what to do while in-country and how to successfully recover and return from a medical procedure. This best-selling guidebook cites 17 medical travel destinations where some 2 million Americans visit every year for medical treatment, including Mexico, Costa Rica, India, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia, Korea and more.

“The $20 billion-a-year global medical-tourism market finally has a guidebook of its own. With medical tourism now growing at 15 percent annually . . . this tome couldn’t be more timely.” –Travel + Leisure “Patients Beyond Borders tells how to plan and budget for medical care abroad and how to find the best doctors and hospitals.” –AARP Bulletin “Headed around the world for some cheaper medical care? Follow these rules.” –Outside Magazine “Patients Beyond Borders is a landmark series of consumer guides to international medical travel that has helped thousands of patients plan successful health travel journeys abroad.” –U.S. News & World Report “Woodman suggests a $6,000 rule: if your procedure would cost more than $6,000 in the United States, you would likely save money–possibly more than $1,000–by traveling to a foreign hospital, including all other costs.” –NPR (National Public Radio) “I have read and am impressed by this book.” –Arthur Frommer Patients Beyond Borders author and CEO, Josef Woodman, contributed to this landmark international healthcare study, along with nine other health industry experts. –The Economist’s Intelligence Unit “Patients Beyond Borders’s author lends advice to patients considering travel overseas for medical care.” –Oprah.com “While AMA guidelines have established a foundation, additional steps will be needed to set appropriate quality standards that extend from pre-operation care to post-discharge and followup. Accreditation and oversight by neutral overseers–JCI, Patients Beyond Borders, and others–will be important.” –Deloitte Center for Health Solutions “Patients Beyond Borders, the best-selling consumer reference for international health travel . . . is a leading advocate of affordable, high-quality medical care for healthcare consumers worldwide.” –AARP Life@50+ “The [Patients Beyond Borders] website lists and recommends accredited medical facilities around the world that have met strict international standards.” –New York Daily News “Through Woodman’s 12 years of work with internationally accredited hospitals, Ministries of Health, doctors and specialists, Patients Beyond Borders compiled a shortlist of the most-traveled destinations and the average range of savings per procedure.” –WMC 5 Action News Memphis “Woodman’s father is not alone in looking abroad for a medical overhaul. After all, if the American healthcare system is not completely broken, it is certainly dysfunctional. As baby boomers age into more medical problems with spotty coverage and would prefer not to deplete their retirement savings, they are looking at all available options.” –Financial Times “A must read for those considering medical tourism.” –ABC News “A practical guide to planning a medical trip.” –Washington Post
