The field of nonneoplastic and neoplastic blood and bone marrow disorders has evolved remarkably
\nsince the publication of the second edition of Diagnostic Pathology: Blood and Bone Marrow in 2018.
\nThe goal of the author team for this third edition is to provide our readers with a current diagnostic
\nresource for all types of blood and bone marrow specimens that integrates advances in genetic
\ntesting and other new diagnostic modalities with state-of-the-art classification proposals.
\nAlthough readers may be quite aware of new classification proposals for blood and bone marrow
\nneoplasms, the approach to the identification and diagnosis of nonneoplastic blood and bone
\nmarrow disorders has also progressed substantially since 2018. Multiple new chapters have been
\nadded, and all existing chapters have been revised to enhance the utility of this book in routine
\nclinical practice settings.
\nTo accommodate the preferences of trainees and practitioners, both the International Consensus
\nClassification (ICC) and the fifth edition World Health Organization Classification of Haematolymphoid
\nTumours (WHO-HAEM5) proposals are applied to classification strategies for all myeloid, lymphoid,
\nand histiocytic neoplasms included in this book. For standardization and consistency, neoplastic
\nchapter titles reflect ICC designations and terminology. In individual chapters, either text sections
\nor tables have been created to provide comparisons and key features of both ICC and WHO-HAEM5
\nproposals.
\nAlthough the authoring process took ~ 18 months, both neoplastic and nonneoplastic chapters
\nwere updated and revised up until the publication deadline. Consequently, the reader can expect
\nto find very recent citations and text updates in virtually all chapters. Most high-quality, exemplary
\nimages from the second edition have been retained, with new images for newly included disorders
\nand unique examples of existing disorders.
\nOur goal is to provide the full gamut of physicians, from trainees to experienced practitioners, with
\na succinct diagnostic guide that includes disease features, classification criteria, diagnostic testing
\nrequirements, and differential diagnostic considerations for the ~ 180 individual entities or overview
