Ramamurthy’s Decision Making in Pain Management: An Algorithmic Approach 3rd Edition

Many clinicians, especially pain medicine physicians, have reiterated the usefulness of the algorithmic approach to the
evaluation and treatment of pain which was outlined in the first two editions of Decision Making in Pain Management: An
Algorithmic Approach.
There have been great advances in the concepts, approaches, treatment options, and technology in pain medicine, which
necessitate significant revision in order to make the book more relevant to the present-day practitioner.
This book is not meant to replace in-depth, highly referenced textbooks in pain medicine. It may, nevertheless, be a
valuable supplement, providing pain clinicians with a logical, concise, stepwise approach to the identification, diagnosis, and
management of various acute or chronic pain conditions or syndromes.
I have maintained the multidisciplinary approach with input from various specialists. Many chapters have been added to
reflect the advances in pain medicine. Specifically, novel procedures such as vertebral augmentation and regenerative medicine
techniques have been addressed. As well, I have attempted to attend to the growing concern regarding the international opioid
epidemic by adding an entire section on the use of opioids to our work. In areas of controversy, the chapters may reflect the
preferences of the individual author.
I would like to thank all of the contributors for bringing a multidisciplinary approach, and thus making this book unique.
My special thanks to Dr Nagpal for his tireless efforts as the corresponding editor.
I would like to thank Joe Rusko, Bridget Meyer, Nedup Denka, and Angima Shree for their assistance in the completion
of this book and for their tireless efforts on behalf of M/s Jaypee Brothers Medical Publishers (P) Ltd, New Delhi, India. In
regards to my particular institution, I would like to thank the Chairman, Department of Anesthesiology, University of Texas
Health Science Center, Texas, USA, Dr Andrews, for his commitment to our success. We also want to thank Betsy Turner for her
dedication to this project.
I must also thank Drs Maxim S Eckmann, Brian T Boies, Miles Day, and Larry C Driver, for their editorial contributions.
Finally, I must thank Misty Blaze, our Editorial Assistant, for her incredible and often times Herculean efforts to make sure that
the manuscripts were completed and edited to the best of everyone’s abilities and for her editorial prowess.
