About the Author

Spencer Rathus obtained his Ph.D. from the University at Albany and has wide experience in hospital and other health settings. He is currently on the faculty at New York University. He has published some 30 research articles, focusing on the areas of human sexuality, substance abuse, and assertive behavior. He developed the Rathus Assertiveness Schedule and has written college textbooks in such areas as human sexuality, child and adolescent development, college success, and HIV/AIDS. He has also served on educational task forces aimed at diversity Issues at both the precollege and undergraduate levels

Rebecca Rogerson has worked as an international development consultant and social justice advocate for almost twenty years. Her focus on Southern Africa, HIV and AIDS, and Indigenous Peoples’ rights, has led her to develop and implement award-winning community-based, national level and education-based curricula and programs. She is currently pursuing her graduate degree in Interdisciplinary Studies at York University while teaching in the Social Service Worker Program at Seneca College. She is passionate about providing culturally appropriate counselling to marginalized communities, and dabbles in creative writing as a vehicle for social change. She has three children and lives in Ontario.
