The breadth of knowledge one needs to perform excellent vascular
\nsurgery has increased exponentially over the last two decades.
\nVascular surgeons have a unique skill set in that they perform and
\ninterpret diagnostic imaging, are actively involved in vascular
\npatients\u2019 medical management, as well as perform diagnostic and
\ntherapeutic interventions and open reconstructive surgery.
\nThis has made training and education of our medical students,
\nresidents, and fellows very challenging as well as dynamic. This
\nprocedure-based textbook outlines the variety of endovascular,
\nopen, and combined approaches that will be useful for all trainees
\nas well as experienced vascular surgeons. The goal is to provide a
\nsuccinct, diagrammatic approach to all common (as well as some
\nless common), endovascular, and open procedures, that one could
\nbriefly review the steps as outlined by true practicing experts.
\nIdeally, this will provide the surgeon a road map to a variety of
\ncontemporary vascular interventions.
\nWhile each chapter briefly discusses indications and
\ncontraindications, preoperative planning, surgery, postoperative
\nmanagement, complications, and results as well as recommended
\nreferences, the true contribution of this body of work resides in the
\nbeautiful illustrations and figures provided.
\nWe hope that this collection of operative wisdom will stand as a
\nbenchmark guide for the safe and effective application of some of
\nmedicine\u2019s most sophisticated procedures for the benefit of our
